PRE-SIHH 2017: Meet the Complex Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Minute Repeater Mysterious Double Tourbillon

As a teaser to what is coming next week at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) 2017, Cartier unveils one of its more complicated watches of the new year: the Rotonde de Cartier Minute Repeater Mysterious Double Tourbillon. A mouthful to say, the watch has even more in store to feast the eyes upon when you get close up with it.

The timepiece boasts a host of signature Cartier watchmaking elements, including blending a mystery watch with a tourbillon — and a double one at that, and a minute repeater. It is the first Cartier watch that combines the brand’s famed “mystery” concept with the audibly appealing chiming mechanism.

In this alluring timepiece, the mainplate and movement parts are visible on the dial side to allow the wearer to witness the magnificent watchmaking prowess involved in making this piece. At 10:00 on the dial, the double tourbillon escapement sits beneath a large sapphire aperture and seems to float in space — bringing the mystery concept full circle. Additionally, the hammers of the all-new minute repeater mechanism are visible on dial side of the 45mm manual-wind watch.

The movement boasts 448 parts.

Ce nouveau Répéteur Minutieux Double Tourbillon mystérieux abrite le calibre 9407 MC - un mouvement de base avec tourbillon double à double axe de rotation. Le tourbillon volant double axe - avec la première rotation en une minute et la deuxième rotation en cinq minutes - est breveté. La montre mesure seulement 11,15 mm d'épaisseur, ce qui représente la double complication de la marque à ce jour. La Grande Complication (9406MC) mesure 12,57 mm d'épaisseur et le précédent Double Tourbillon mystérieux mesure 12,45 mm d'épaisseur.

Afin d'optimiser le son, Cartier a éliminé un cadran et a créé le boîtier de titane pour une réverbération plus forte. La marque a également développé des gongs de section carrée pour un son plus fort - qui est mesuré à 56 décibels. Cartier a fait de grands efforts pour s'assurer que le son du répéteur ravirait tous les sens et prendrait en compte le volume (loudness), le timbre (la clarté), la richesse et la durée du son.

Construire le double tourbillon à double axe comme un élément mystérieux était l'un des plus grands défis.

La montre est alimentée par le calibre 448 partie 9407 MC. La montre porte la certification hautement convoitée de Hallmark of Geneva. En raison de la complexité impliquée dans la construction de cette complication, seulement 50 pièces seront réalisées. Il y aura également des versions en diamant de baguette coupées disponibles en petits nombres. Le prix n'a pas encore été réglé.
